AUTOCAD 2012 TUTORIAL 105 – (STRETCH, SCALE, ARRAY)

AUTOCAD 2012 TUTORIAL 105 – STRETCH, SCALE, ARRAY

STEPS

1) Run AutoCAD 2012.
2) Make sure that you have set the right Dimension Units (refer Step 2 in AUTOCAD 2012 TUTORIAL 103 – MOVE, ROTATE, TRIM, EXTEND ).
3) Your drawing should have the following diagrams as a starting point (download the startup file here).

EXPLODE

4) Exploding a rectangle.
4.1) Using your mouse, click and drag to form a blue highlighted rectangular area as shown below:
4.2) The nodes for the rectangle in the center of the diagram were not included in the selection.
4.3) Click on the Explode Button.
4.4) Select the rectangle, press ENTER.
4.5) Now if you perform Step 4.1 again, the nodes for the rectangle have been included in the selection.

STRETCH

5) Stretch the upper part of diagram.
5.1) Click on the Stretch Button.
5.2) Click the Base Point.
5.3) Type 0,5, press ENTER.
5.4)  Outcome:

SCALE

6) Scale down the drawing.
6.1) Click the Scale Button.
6.2) Select the whole drawing, press ENTER.
6.3) For the Base Point, type 0,0, press ENTER.
6.4) For the Scale Factor, type 0.25, press ENTER.
6.5) Outcome:

ARRAY

7) Replicate the drawing into array of objects.
7.1) Click the Array Button.
7.2) Using mouse pointer select the whole object, press ENTER.
7.3) Move to top right corner as shown below, click once,
...press ENTER (Specify opposite corner to space items or [Spacing] <Spacing>:  ) ,
… press ENTER (Specify the distance between rows or [Expression] <…>: ),
… press ENTER (Specify the distance between columns or [Expression] <…>: ),
… press ENTER (Press Enter to accept or […] <eXit> ).


7.4) Outcome:

STEPS

1) Run AutoCAD 2012.
2) Make sure that you have set the right Dimension Units (refer Step 2 in AUTOCAD 2012 TUTORIAL 103 – MOVE, ROTATE, TRIM, EXTEND ).
3) Your drawing should have the following diagrams as a starting point (download the startup file here).

COPY

4) Copy the small rectangle to create its duplicate on top of itself.
4.1) Click on the copy button.
4.2) Click the small rectangle, press ENTER.
4.3) Click the bottom left corner of the rectangle for the Base Reference, press ENTER.
4.4) Type 0,5, press ENTER.
Press ENTER again to exit.
4.5) Outcome:

MIRROR

5) Create mirror copy of the small rectangles.
5.1) Click on the Mirror Button.
5.2) Click both of the small rectangles, press ENTER.
5.3) Click two points to serve as the Mirror Line.
When you are prompted with “Erase Source Objects [Yes/No] <No>:”, type No, press ENTER.
5.4) Outcome:
TRIM MODE
6) Set TRIM MODE ON for Fillet and Chamfer. (It trims out the original line and leaves the new fillet/chamfer connected to the rest of the lines).
6.1) Click on the Fillet Button.
6.2) When you are prompted with "Select object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]:"…
type T (to set Trim Mode Option), and …
type T again (to choose Trim). Press ENTER.

FILLET

7.1) Click on the Fillet Button.
7.2) When you are prompted with "Select object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]:"…
type r (to set Radius Mode Option), and …
type 2.5 again (to specify radius value). Press ENTER.
 
7.3) Select the first and second line of the top left corner of the left upper small rectangle.
Repeat the same step to the right upper small rectangle.
7.4) Outcome:

CHAMFER

8.1) Click on the Chamfer Button.
8.2) When you are prompted with "Select object or [Undo/Polyline/Distance/Angle/mEthod/Multiple]:"…
Specify first chamfer distance <…>: 2.5
Specify second chamfer distance <…>: 2.5
 
8.3) Select the first and second line of the top left corner of the left upper small rectangle.
Repeat the same step to the right upper small rectangle.

STEPS

1) Run AutoCAD 2012.
2) Set the Drawing Units.
2.1) Go to AutoCAD Start Button/Drawing Utilities/Units.
2.2) Set Drawing Units properties as follows:
Length
  • Type=Decimal
  • Precision = 0.00
Angle
  • Type= Decimal Degrees
  • Precision=0
Insertion Scale
  • Units to scale inserted content=Millimeters
Lighting
  • Units for specifying the intensity of lighting=International
Click OK.
3) Turn On Snap Mode and Show Grid.
3.1) Snap Mode
3.2) Show Grid
3) Create two rectangles.
3.1) Click Rectangle Button.
3.2) Click on any point on Drawing Space.
3.3) Type 10,10, press ENTER.
3.4) Outcome:
3.5) Click on the Rectangle Button once again.
3.6) Click on the Bottom Left Corner of the first rectangle.
3.7) Type 5,5, and press ENTER.
3.8) Outcome:
4) Draw a line.
4.1) Click on the Line Button.
4.2) Draw a line as shown below:
1) Click first point.
2) Click second point.
3) Press ENTER.

MOVE

5) Move the second rectangle.
5.1) Click on the Move Button.
5.2) Click on the Second Rectangle.
Press ENTER.
5.3) Click on the Bottom Left Corner of the rectangle.
5.4) Type -5,0, press ENTER.
5.5) Outcome:

ROTATE

6) Rotate the Line.
6.1) Click on the Rotate Button.
6.2) Click on the Line and press ENTER.
6.3) Click on the lower end point of the Line…
6.4) Type -45, press ENTER.
6.5) Outcome:

TRIM

7) Trim the part of the line that is outside of the First Rectangle.
7.1) Click on the Trim Button.
7.2) Select the line and the First Rectangle, press ENTER.
7.3) Click on the part of the line that is outside of the rectangle, press ENTER.
7.4) Outcome:

EXTEND

8) Extend the line so that it cuts across the rectangle.
8.1) Click on the Extend Button.
8.2) Click the line and the rectangle, press ENTER.
8.3) Click on the line, press ENTER.
